Canvassing for the First Time

On voting, and the distance between who I was and who I am.

This past week I canvassed for the first time, because I believe in doing my civic duty, both by voting and by encouraging others to vote. It was exciting to walk around the community, hear different perspectives, and talk with the people I met along the way.

The elections affect all of us, and I am grateful for the freedom to vote and the freedom to express myself. I look forward to using my voice, backed by my legal education, to make a difference.

The first time I voted, I was a teenager who suddenly felt her life had been stolen by a pandemic, her future irrevocably altered. That was true, but it was not the cloud of doom that teenage me imagined. Years later, I am healthy, I am accomplished, and I am ready to stay in control of my future as I continue making my mark on the world.
